Dart Totnes ARC caters to varied levels of adult rowing from recreational to competition for all age groups from teens right through to veterans.  Our veterans, senior men and senior women regularly compete at events all over the country. The club has also had many individual athletes training for Great Britain selection. In 2008 Nicola Spencer represented GB in the World U23 lightweight single sculls event, having trained at Totnes.

Our veteran group has a variety of ages and some of the most successful competitors in the country at national and world championship level.  DTARC has multiple World Masters champions who are regularly training on the Dart and welcome other keen aspiring scullers to join them.

New to the sport?
Sweep or sculling – sweep is when each rower has one blade, sculling is with two.  Most beginners start with sweep, although a stable single scull is available at our club for those interested in starting sculling.

The club runs a beginners class most weekends on a Sunday morning.  Once you have learnt the basics it is possible to become part of a crew that can then improve through additional outings. Depending on the crew’s ambition, it is then possible to train towards summer events across the South West run by WEARA; WEARA calendar of events 2010 .  Alternatively it is possible to remain with the improvers group and enjoy ‘drop-in’ social rowing without the competition. The bar is often open for a refreshing drink after and the sunny balcony is one of the best places to relax on a fine day after an enjoyable row.

DTARC currently has the following adult groups:

BEGINNERS – covering any age, covers all the basics that you need to progress.

IMPROVERS – crews with people of varying ability, either four or eight people with a cox.

TRAINING CREWS – usually in fours with a cox, can then proceed to local and regional racing.

SENIOR SQUADS – more experienced athletes who train several times a week with a view to racing at local, regional and national competitions (e.g.Henley Royal and Women’s Regattas, National Championships)

VETERAN SCULLERS/SQUAD – rowing for veterans has become very popular and competitive. Our veterans train in singles for maximum fitness benefit and combine forces for crews at national and international competition.

INDIVIDUAL SCULLERS – competant individuals can use club singles or the more regular scullers buy their own boat.  Limited space is available at the boathouse for private boats, allocation is done by how often the boat is used.

INDOOR ROWING – this plays an important role for all levels of rowing – DTARC is proud to have had national champions training alongside 70 year olds!

Whether you just want to enjoy a social paddle on the beautiful river Dart, or reach the top of your racing ability – we offer levels of outings, events and coaching that can cover all aspirations.
