Cardiff Head of the Taff - Saturday 8th March 2003
The 4000 metre annual rowing event was well attended and represented by many clubs on Saturday, particularly Eights and Junior sculls. The course started at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff in very windy conditions and crews experienced an interesting approach at the start of the course before getting into the main river, rowing down the estuary and eventually emerging into a newly enclosed, yet rough Cardiff Bay. The Dart-Totnes Veteran C Men's crew of Nick Price, Simon Gifford-Mead, Alan Langmaid and Mick Rolley(str.) were coxed by Steve Grimes to win against Dartmouth who unfortunately were their only opposition, however the Dart Totnes crew overtook Dartmouth approximately two thirds of the way down the course to secure a comfortable win in the time of 16 minutes and 38 seconds. There was also success from John Poland (Dart Totnes) and Amanda Inkster(Dartmouth) who rowed a composite double. The Dart Totnes ladies Senior 3 crew of Lissie Poland, Katie Wilson, Jo Langmead (Dartmouth) Debbie Hutchings (Str.) and cox. Joddy Chapman had a pleasing row in the second division. Jo Langmead(Dartmouth) also rowed with Dart Totnes' Katie Wilson to make a Junior 18 double scull and had an excellent row.
